<p><strong>Filipino-Australian Bevan Calvert heads for the 2011 world handball championships in Sweden on January 13-30, 2011.</strong></p>
<p>Calvert, who plays right-back, was named in Australia’s national team of 16, plus five reserves. He is expected back from Germany, where he plays for TSV Altenholz Club, to join the Australian side before flying off for the world championships.</p>
<p>Australia is bracketed in group C, and will play Algeria, Croatia, Denmark, Romania and Serbia in the preliminary rounds at Malmo, Sweden.</p>
<p>This will be Calvert&#8217;s fifth participation in world handball championships, the first being in 2005 in Tunisia, when he was 18 years old.</p>
<p>At the 2007 world handball championships in Germany, Calvert&#8217;s sensational goal against France was named Play of Day, screened before the match between Denmark and Norway, and watched by an audience of millions.</p>
<p>In Croatia for the 2009 world handball championships, Calvert effectively gave up a two-year contract with a Danish first division club to represent Australia;</p>
<p>This year, he represented Australia in two major tournaments:  in April for the Galllipolli TriNations Tournament in Turkey during the Anzac Week, and in May for the 2010 Super Globe World Championships, a tournament of champion clubs.</p>
<p>The complete Australian team for Sweden, formed by the Australian Handdball Federation, is: Ognjen Latinovic (goalkeeper), Bojan Stojanovic (left wing), James Blondell (right wing), Bevan Calvert (right back), Tommy fletcher (left back), Jason Hoppner (centre back), Michael thomas (right back), Kristian Groenintwoud (right back), Mitchell Hedges (pivot), Daniel Kelly (right wing), Joshua Parmenter (centre back), Luka Krajnc (left wing), Ognjen Matic (left back), Nejc Kodric (pivot), Pascal Winkler (goal keeper), and Nemanja Subotic (left back).</p>
<p>Reserves are: Richard Ridley (centre back), Lee Scholfield (centre back), Lucas Frey (left wing), Curtis Eitzen (goalkeeper), and Kristofer Karlsson (goalkeeper).</p>

<p>The achievements of Sydney-based Filipino-Australian handballer, Bevan Calvert, are being highlighted in interstitials by the ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel. </p>
<p>Interstitials are film clips shown in between TFC program which usually run for one minute and air for one whole quarter. One of ABS-CBN Global&#8217;s interstitials production is titled “The Global Filipino” which features Filipinos who have achieved international recognition. </p>
<p>The interstitials on Bevan are slotted for viewing by TFC subscribers between 19 April and 30 June 2009. </p>
<p>Many Filipino-Australians have become familiar with Bevan’s achievements in handball over the years. </p>
<p>At the age of fifteen years, Bevan was selected to be part of the New South Wales Men’s Handball Team. </p>
<p>Three years later he became a member of the Australian Men’s Handball Team.</p>
<p>He represented Australia in the 2005, 2007 and 2009 World Championships, and in other international tournaments.  </p>
<p>Since July 2006, he has been playing in the First Division League in Denmark.</p>
