The month of May this year and every year has been declared as National Heritage Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney announced recently.
The announcement followed the issue of Presidential Decree No. 439 which “mandates the conservation and promotion of the nation’s cultural and historical heritage and the need to create a consciousness, respect and love for the legacies of Filipino cultural history, awareness of cultural heritage sites, structures and landscapes, and encourage the participation in the preservation of these cultural legacies through various activities.”
The decree otherwise known as “Declaring The Month of May Every Year As National Heritage Month” also recognises “a need to protect and promote, and celebrate our people’s multi-cultural traditions.”
This year’s theme is “Pambansang Pagkakaisa Para sa Pamana”.
The Consulate encourages Philippine-related organisations to conduct activities which will create awareness and admiration of Philippine cultural heritage.
