Ted Aritao will be missed

Military leader, lawyer, community leader, and writer Atty Teodoro “Ted” Aritao, 81, passed away Sunday, July 31, in Sydney. He is survived by his wife, Janet Aritao.

Ted wrote A Measure of Security for The Filipino Australian during the website’s early years on Philippine-related topics, with the following personal information:

Ted Aritao writes A MEASURE OF SECURITY. Ted is a retired gentleman boasting a background in the military and in politics, with a continuing interest in both. He was a young guerilla fighter during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in 1941-1945, entered the Philippine Bar in 1957, and served one term as councillor in his home city of Bacolod as only some of his achievements.

In his guerilla intelligence unit (G-2) 7th Military district under command of Captain Cesario Medina jr, thirteen-year-old Teddy was responsible for delivering secret messages to other guerilla units of the Philippine resistance in the Japanese-occupied zones of Bacolod, Bago and Silay cities.

Ted was a member of the Order of Demolay of Bacolod City in 1947, member of Sigma-Rho fraternity at the University of the Philippines in 1949, member of The Vanguard fraternity at the UP in 1950, member of the Philippine Bar in 1957, regional supervisor of the Social Security System in 1960-63, elected councillor of Bacolod City in 1964-67, and member of the American Legion post 172 from 1960 to the present.

On retirement, Ted and his wife Janet emigrated to Sydney, Australia, in 1991, where he now holds positions with the Returned and Servicemen’s League of Australia, the Australia-Philippines Services League, and the Most Noble Order of Rizal.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 5 at the Olsens Funeral Services located at 83 The River Road, Revesby commencing at 10.30am, to be followed by internment at the South Chapel, Rookwood Cemetery.

  1. TRIBUTE TO ATTY SIR TED ARITAO

    The Australia Philippines Services League NSW Chapter (APSL NSWC) mourns the passing of Attorney Sir Teodoro Aritao Sr, KGCMR, who is popularly addressed as Sir Ted.

    Sir Ted is a WW II veteran being a member of the Philippine guerrilla movement as a teenager during the war.

    At the time of his death he was the Deputy Commandant of the Australia Philippines Services League NSW Chapter (APSL NSWC) and was a member of the City of Blacktown Returned Services League (RSL) Sub Branch.

    He has been credited with co-founding a number of associations in Sydney, to name a few: Negrosanon Association in Sydney, The Most Noble Order of Rizal, and the Australia Philippines Services League.

    He was a former City Councillor in Bacolod City, Vice President – Internal Affairs for Philippine Communities Council (PCC) NSW 2002 and PCC Director for a number of years.

    In 2004, Sir Ted was responsible for allowing the first ever Philippine Contingent under the banner of Australia Philippines Services League to march in the yearly ANZAC Day parade on the 25th day of April each year.
