Last year, due to pressing commitments, we missed our annual trek to one of the world’s largest Information and Communications Tecnology exhibits, CeBIT Australia at the Darling Harbour.
This year, we promised ourselves we won’t.
So, yesterday – CeBIT’s opening day – about midday we caught the monorail to Darling Harbour. Once inside the exhibition hall, we quickly moved around different booths, bypassing others and spending only a few minutes on gizmos and gadgets that fancied us until we hit G48 booth.
Booth G48 was bannered as “Philippines”. Great! We introduced ourselves and asked if there is someone we could interview.
One of the G48 exhibitors, Mr Renato Quizon, gladly accommodated us. After the interview, he handed us materials about Business Processing Association Philippines which according to him organised their participation in CeBIT.
Going over the BPA/P materials, we were surprised to note that the unassuming G48 booth is backed by 600 IT and business process outsourcing companies which employ around 500,000 IT-BPO workers. And it has about 21 per cent of the world’s total offshore BPO market.
