Celebrating fiesta and biodiversity in style

It is an inspiring and amazing story of celebration as young and lovely women focus on biodiversity and fund raising appeals for charitable causes.

Woven into one whole system, not just practical, physical, utilitarian but also cultural. We value biodiversity’s significant contribution to the economy and is essential to our identity and culture.

Young, 16 to 25 years of age, active, lovable and ready to spring into action, seven beauty contestants share the belief of lending support and assistance to the less fortunate ones and protect the oxygen we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink and other elements in this rich diversity of life which is being lost at a dramatic speed at this time.

And their way to it was to join this year’s ‘Miss Philippine Australia and Charity Queen Australia’ quest. The pageantry will be staged in conjunction with the PASC-sponsored Grand Philippine Sydney Fiesta celebrations on Sunday, 10 October at the Fairfield Showground, Smithfield Road, Prairiewood.

This year’s candidates are Jessica Clarke, Bianca Manansala, Melissa Palmer, Rachel Petty, Amanda Ross, Angerika Sarmiento, and Honey Scowen.

There is a possibility that one of the contestants may romp away the two titles as the ‘Miss Philippines Australia and the Charity Queen Australia’ as did happen before.

Certainly the highest fund raiser gets the ‘Charity Queen Australia’ role. The ‘Miss Philippine Australia’ title will go to the contestant who will gather the highest scores in the Filipiniana, Swimwear, Formal Gown and Interview sections. Intelligence, personality and beauty are among the criteria the judges have to score the contestants.

You too can participate as a judge for the title of ‘People Choice Award’ by filling in the ballot from the souvenir program and by dropping your ballot at the designated box for ‘People’s Choice Award’ entries at the Information desk not later than 4pm.

There are Special Awards such as Miss Friendship which the candidates will select, Miss Photogenic which will be chosen by photographers and the highest scorer in each section of the Filipiniana, Swimwear and Formal Gown.

This year’s beauty candidates are a combination of talents and in different occupations – from student teaching/coaching, customer service relations, hairdressing and makeup artistry, jewellery retail sales manager to childcare traineeship programs. They share the same ambition to see and travel the world and experience living in different cultures as well as be successful in their chosen field of work.

A big salute to this united group of volunteers and candidates in a mission to achieve the necessary paradigm shift by living in harmony with nature and extending hand to our brothers and sisters in need.
