The 93rd Lions Club International Convention was held in Sydney during 28 June – July 2, 2010. This annual convention was attended by delegates from 147 countries, including the Philippines.

Highlight of the convention was the parade of the delegates on 29 June from Hyde Park through Macquarie Street and ending in the Sydney Opera House.

On that beautiful sunny winter’s day, a big crowd lined up the street to cheer the marching delegates who appreciated the warm welcome they received. Approximately 100 people marched under the Philippine banner.

The biggest Filipino contingent that attended the convention was the Quezon City Bahaghari Executive Lions which included the following delegates: Anold Tolentino, Carol Tolentino, Zosimo Borlaza, Johnsy Mangundayao, Lourdes Flores [President], Venus Bajas, Victorina Carlos, Normita Doctor, Jenny Bobiles, Obdulia Calumarde and Maria Corazon Geronimo.

QC Bahaghari Executive Lions was chartered in August 3, 1993 by a group of civic-minded professionals and businessmen. Since then, the club consistently performs well in its district in as far as service delivery to its constituents is concerned.

At present, it has 52 members, most of whom are from the Philippine Social Security System; eight honorary members including four past District Governors.

The club’s activities include the conduct of humanitarian missions in depressed and marginalised communities, provision of scholarship grant to deserving students, environment preservation, health care, sight first program, and youth concerns.

The Blacktown City Council, headed by Mayor Charlie Lowles, held a reception for the delegates of the Bahaghari Club.

The delegates would not only take back with them the knowledge gained from the various sessions discussing initiatives and strategic directions, but also memories of the camaraderie they shared and of their visits to a number of beautiful Sydney and Canberra places.

    • @boy – Thanks for dropping by and for your comments. We checked the Inquirer page linked in your comment and noted that one of the news items/commentaries written by Ramon Tulfo referred to a certain Obdulia Calumarde.

      Here is the report:

“The driver of a silver Toyota Hi-Ace, with plate number BOY 80, recently went against the flow of traffic on Roxas Boulevard in Manila with siren blaring.

“He was escorted by a motorcycle cop and a police patrol car.

“LTO records show the owner of the vehicle is Obdulia Calumarde of 1 Emerald St., Goldhill Homes, Bagbag, Novaliches, Quezon City.

“President Noy said in his inaugural speech at Rizal Park that vehicles using sirens to get ahead in traffic would be things of the past.

” ‘Walang wang-wang, walang counterflow (No more siren, no more counterflow),’ said the new President.

“Who is this Obdulia Calumarde that she can violate P-Noy’s directive?”
