Pacquiao visit off
The planned visit of Philippine Congressman and world welterweight boxing champion Manny Pacquiao next month has been scuttled.
This was announced by spokesperson Minerva Santos of the Philippine-Australian Community Foundation, whose chair Manny Villon had arranged the visit through Governor Chavit Singson of Ilocos Sur.
Ms Minerva’s latest announcement read:
‘‘I regret to inform you that the Philippine-Australian Community Foundation Inc. has received notification that the unofficial visit of Manny Pacquiao and Gov. Chavit Singson to Sydney has been cancelled. They will therefore not be appearing at the Philippine Australian Community Festival; however the festival will go ahead and will be held as scheduled on 15 August 2010 at the Philippine Australian Community Centre in Schofields.’’
Other sources said that negotiations are going on to salvage plans for the visit.
