After their successful Philippine tour last year, the Sweet Mojo members are now even more equipped and excited to serve Sydney with their brand of music.
The band, originally formed in 2002, decided to change the course of their journey and broke away from the traditional show or cover band status to market their own creations from June last year. Under the management of Generation B (otherwise known as Beaufunkcious), the group’s catalog of songs have been showcased in the Australian local scene.
Since their official launch last June, the group led by Oliver Gadista (also the composer & strings guru) together with Joel Townsend (the Key Master) and Topz (formerly on drums) had been blessed with regular gigs and opportunities to promote their original compositions presenting at the Strathfield’s Annual Spring Fair and Filipino Grand Fiesta.
Sweet Mojo’s album revolves around love and emotions. The 13-track album includes the song “Everything I Want” and other favourites of Pinoys – “Eroplano”, “Bestfriend”, “Tao Lang” and the most requested in Australia – “You Don’t Know Me”, “Drained” and “Runaway”.
To mark their first year anniversary as a new team and to show their faith in the future of the Philippines, the album launch will also feature Oliver’s latest composition called “Pag-asa,” a bonus track in the album.
The launch will be staged at Carlingford Bowling Club on 1 May, 2010 starting at 7:30pm. Joining Sweet Mojo in the event are Criz Guce, Crystal Bernardo, Jerry Rodelas (Bass) and Roberto Fredes (drums).
Tickets are available pre-paid for $10pp or at the door for $15pp. For more info, contact Bless Salonga at +614 2080 01234.
I had the pleasure of attending the cd launch event of SweetMojo on 1st May. It was fantastic to learn about the good things that this group of young people are doing for the less fortunate in the Philippines, aside from sharing the beauty of life through their music.
I am now the proud ownder of a signed cd, and look forward to countless of times I coudl enjoy their music. While they do fantastic rendition of covers, my personal vote goes to their originial pieces. The message of each song connects at many levels.
Bless provided incredible energy during the evening to make the proceedings happen smoothly. Then of course Murphy’s Law happened for brief moments with technical arrangements, but these could be overlook as the group were doing everything ‘by themselves’.
As an aside, I must say that a few of us were disappointed by a few people who continually talked loudly through the evening. This was not fhe first time we had such experienced in Filo-Aussie events.
Overall, we had an enjoyable evening. I am confident that the band will continue to improve and will be successful. Congrats to the band, Bless and all who were involved in a successful cd launch. Thanks for having us.
