The latest Fil-Australian band sensation, Sweet Mojo, went on radio Friday, November 13, to announce a three-week concert tour of The Philippines this month to raise money for typhoon Ondoy flood victims.

In an interview with Radio Sandigan anchor Veronica Munro, band managing agent Bless Salonga said the concert tour, named ‘Sweet Mojo Invades Pinas’, will take in seven venues across central and southern Luzon.

”It will be our first major concert, and the boys wanted it to be in The Philippines and for a good cause,” Ms Salonga said.

Band members Oliver Gadista (lead guitar) and Joel Townsend (keyboard/guitar) performed live in studio B of community radio station 2RDJ-FM. They sang a number from their first CD album, which was released recently. The third member of the band, Topz Legaspi (drums), was away.

Ms Salonga said the plan was to record an album on the Philippine concerts and to raise funds from CD sales to donate to the flood victims.

Sweet Mojo has been performing at Sydney venues this year.

The band leaves for Manila on Friday, November 20, and its final performance will be at Antipolo on Saturday, December 12. Performances will be at Sta Mesa, Edsa, Laguna, Daet, Paracale, Katipunan and Antipolo.

  1. We started early to meet the volunteers for lunch. We have been warned that the place is still muddy and to dress really comfortably. On our way to the dock, the Mayor greeted us with his crew, shook hands, took pictures and pressed onto Sto Angel Norte via 3 boats provided by Mayor Magkalas.

We were greeted by this banner “Sto Angel Norte welcomes Sweetmojo” and this wonderful lady, Mrs (name to be prvoded later) . The volunteers helped us feed 300 people in the local town and the team entertained acoustically for 45 minutes. The people were very warm and still in good spirits in spite of the devastation typhoon Ondoy left them with – roads still submerged, houses left knee-high in mud, bridge collapsed due to the sudden flush flood, lost properties and livelihood.

We are so blessed to be a part of this experience – to be able to help out and see smiles amidst the challenges that lay ahead. To Aileen Bandillo, Tonnette Vecino and the rest of PGMHS Batch 88, maraming salamat po!

    • Thanks for the update, Bless. Don’t forget to send us photos so we can share them with our friends.

      • Good Evening from Bicol!

Pictures will be e-mailed to you asap and an album will be created in our Facebook account “Sweetmojo Page” as soon as we get back from our tour (or maybe even earlier).

Just want to let you know, we managed to raise fund from Sta.Mesa gig to help the Aglipay church and from the Bantayog performance to help our mission in Laguna.

The lady who supervised the food distribution was Aling Odessa.

See you when we get back to Sydney.
