For the last nine weeks, 22 Filipino-heritage rugby league and union players have been training in Sydney for the Brunei and Borneo Rugby 7s tournaments on October 24-25 and October 31 – November 1 respectively.
With injuries, work and study commitments to key players from the Silver medal 2007 South East Asian games Rugby 7s team, Philippine Rugby Football Union (PRFU) Rugby 7s Head Coach Rick Hartley will be experimenting with a new line up of players.
Many going to the Brunei and Borneo 7s will be representing the Philippines at an international level for the very first time.
Congratulations to the first group of players selected for the tournament: Oliver Saunders (Captain), Rafael Zappia (Vice Captain), Ben Saunders, Fred Colina, Cleo Gomez, Darran Seeto, Kenneth Stern and brothers Harry and Fred Morris.
PRFU Rugby 7s Head Coach Rick Hartley would like to thank other members of his coaching group, National Captain Michael Letts and current international Matthew Saunders and all Filipino-heritage rugby players for training and doing the hard work required to represent the Philippines. The commitment and hard work shown by a young group of rugby players is an inspiration to the nation.
