Fil-Aussie handballer goes global

The achievements of Sydney-based Filipino-Australian handballer, Bevan Calvert, are being highlighted in interstitials by the ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel.
Interstitials are film clips shown in between TFC program which usually run for one minute and air for one whole quarter. One of ABS-CBN Global’s interstitials production is titled “The Global Filipino” which features Filipinos who have achieved international recognition.
The interstitials on Bevan are slotted for viewing by TFC subscribers between 19 April and 30 June 2009.
Many Filipino-Australians have become familiar with Bevan’s achievements in handball over the years.
At the age of fifteen years, Bevan was selected to be part of the New South Wales Men’s Handball Team.
Three years later he became a member of the Australian Men’s Handball Team.
He represented Australia in the 2005, 2007 and 2009 World Championships, and in other international tournaments.
Since July 2006, he has been playing in the First Division League in Denmark.

Many thanks to The Filipino Australian. It is fantastic that not only overseas media, but also the members of the Filipino-Australian media acknowledge and support a Filipino-Australian youth who is successful in doing what he loves. Our hope is that we inspire more Filipino-Australian youth to strive for whatever they set their sights and hearts to.

We look forward to hearing more about Bevan as well as stories on handball and other sports endemic to Australia like netball, cricket, football and rugby. We are pretty certain that the new breed of Filipino Australians can equally excel in these areas.

I wish to share the comments of the Chief Editor of the Croatian World Network Forum, Mr Nenad Bach, on this TFA article on Bevan. Bevan’s photo was featured on CROWN after the 2005 World Championship, after which articles about Bevan and Australian have been published on CROWN. A strong friendship was forged from that time, and Bevan, the whole Team and all of us experienced the warm hospitality of Nenad’s friends and great many Croatian people.
