I received today an email notification from the NSW planning department that the application was approved last 22 November, see below.

Very unfortunate for those living in the area.

So what's next? :-(

-------------

Our ref: 9042593

Dear Sir/Madam

Subject: Determination of the Eastern Creek (Light Horse) Waste Project, (MP06_0139)

I would like to thank you for your submission in relation to the above project, and advise you that on 22 November 2009, the Minister for Planning approved the Eastern Creek Waste Project under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (the Act).

The Minister’s decision came after a review by the Planning Assessment Commission (PAC) on the ‘reasonableness’ of the Director-General’s recommendations on the project.

You may view copies of the Project Approval and the Department’s Assessment Report on the Department’s website (www.planning.nsw.gov.au) under “Development Assessment/Notices of Determination”). In addition, you can view the PAC’s report on their website, www.pac.nsw.gov.au .

The Department acknowledges there has been a great deal of community concern regarding the project, particularly regarding the potential health impacts from the receipt of asbestos waste along with potential odour, dust and noise impacts associated with a waste facility. The Department has considered these concerns closely and undertaken a rigorous assessment of the project. As a result of this assessment, stringent conditions regulating the environmental performance of the project are in place. Conditions are also in place to facilitate an ongoing transparent flow of information regarding the project to the community. For example schedule 5, condition 9 of the approval requires the proponent to place all pertinent documentation regarding the environmental performance of the facility on their website.

Additionally, if you are dissatisfied with the Minister’s decision you have certain appeal rights under section 75L of the Act.

If you have any enquiries on this matter please contact Felicity Greenway on 02 9228 6338 or felicity.greenway@planning.nsw.gov.au.

Yours sincerely

We are with you in hoping that after those numerous objections to the DA, the NSW government will listen to the voice and concern of the community.

Feel free to email us updates of this development so we can share it with the rest of our readers and members.

Hopefully there will be many changes to this DA before the NSW government allow this to go ahead. Number 1 change should be no hazardous waste to be accepted.

THis guy has revealed he has no regard for environmental issues or the law. He has already been prosecuted for illegal dumping of asbestos and other contaminents.

Why would the NSW government believe he will do the 'right' thing in Minchinbury.

This will wreck our lifestyle and our homes. THe NSW Parliament house is currently holding an art exhibition of widows of asbestos related diseases. THese ladies lost loved ones due to asbestos fibres, and this id - - t wants to put an asbestos tip less than 500m from our homes!! no thanks
