Australian surgeons in reconstructive surgery works
Surgeons and anesthesiologists belonging to Interplast Australia & New Zealand are back at the Benguet General Hospital for the third time to give free reconstructive surgery to patients having hare lip, cleft palate, burns and facial deformities.
Coordinated by the Save Our Street Children Foundation Inc, the medical mission which is also supported by Australia’s Rotary Club has already operated over rwo hundred patients to date.
Aside from giving favor to patients, the doctors who specialize in reconstructive surgery also teach and give advice to willing neophyte medical practitioners.
Founded in 1983 as an association between the Royal Australiasian College of Surgeons and Rotary District 9800, Interplast Australia & New Zealand is a charity that sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses to developing countries in the Asia Pacific Region to provide free treatment and medical training.
The association’s programs today extend to Bangladesh, China, Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Kiribati, Laos, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Vietnam.
